After seven incredible years, we have made the difficult decision to retire the festival. Our goal was to create a horror film festival for the North, provide a new market for filmmakers from all over the world, and inspire local filmmakers to make their own films.
We are grateful to say we have accomplished those goals. Seven years goes by fast, and in that time we connected with so many talented filmmakers, actors, film fans, horror fans (always a category unto ourselves) and the experience was lifechanging. Thanks to everyone who came along for the ride. It has been amazing. And who knows, we might rise from the dead for a greatest hit screening sometime in the future. Anything is possible. In the meantime, festival founder David Briggs along with fest producer Distant Field Productions is onto something new…the Gateway Film Festival. This festival launches in 2023, and film submissions open in August, 2022. Gateway is a three-day, multi-screen, all-genre cinematic extravaganza, and guess what? There will be horror. Oh yes, so much creepy horror. In fact, since Gateway is three days, we will be able to include more horror than we did at the Northern Frights Festival. So this end is leading to some exciting beginnings, and we hope you’ll join us for the ride. We will be in touch, because really, we’re not going anywhere. Thanks for seven years of amazing film. Thanks for spending your time with us for seven festivals. And thanks for keeping the genre we love alive and well. The future of horror is in excellent hands…yours. |
